Ss Will Connect With Syrian Teen’s 9-Minute Doc From Zaatari Camp – Another Kind Of Girl #refugeeweek @refugees #globaled #inspirational

Another Kind Of Girl By Khaldiya Jibawi

3/4J Mrs Joyce has stumbled upon an inspirational move made by a young girl living in Camp Zaatari. Her name is Khaldiya.

We are going to watch her film and connect with what we know about Zaatari and about Khaldiya.http://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2016/06/05/480611303/syrian-teens-9-minute-doc-hits-cannes-sundance-l-a-film-fest shares the success of the film and tells us the following details about the remarkable young lady Khaldiya.

Khaldiya Jibawi dreams of being a documentary filmmaker.

And she’s off to a great start.

The 18-year-old Syrian refugee made her first film in a refugee camp in Jordan, and it’s been shown at Sundance, SXSW and the Cannes Film Festival, to name a few. This weekend, her documentary shows at the Los Angeles Film Festival.

It’s called Another Kind of Girl — a phrase she uses to describe herself after filming gave her a new sense of courage.

Jibawi is just shy of her 19th birthday. She’ll celebrate at the Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan. She and her family fled Syria in 2012 and have been living in the camp since then. She is one of nearly 80,000 refugees there.

Jibawi’s documentary, which depicts her everyday life, was filmed on a handheld video camera. She helps her siblings with homework, listens to music on her bed and walks around the camp with her friends. But there are also moments of frustration and melancholy: A shot of her hand tracing dirt on a window pane, a dusty tarp flapping in the wind, a door slamming.

  1. What do you know about Khaldiya as a person after watching the film?

I know after watching Khaldiya’s 9.9 minute autobiography documentary that she knows how it feels in Camp Zaatari. She know how it feels because she is always safe, kind and has always somebody to have fun with. She has a lot of freinds and she absolutely loves it at Camp Zaatari. I know know that it must have being a tough few months building from 2012-2016 because nobody wants to be a Syrian Refugee!

I think the reason why Khaldiya likes filming because she has got something to do when she gets bored she can get out and go make a video and share it around. It is like sharing how she likes being there a little bit. Also so she can express her life to somebody when she gets asked. It would be fun as well. It IS fun because she absolutely loves it. But that is only what I think. There might be a different reason why she likes filming. Maybe I should read Khaldiya’s autobiography.

I believe this is a award winning short documentary because she has lots of experience with making films and she has a great story to tell. She doesn’t have worry about forgetting anything about her life because she has it all on camera. She can share it in a better way. I believe that she does her videos through love and her thoughts and not lying about them. That’s why she gets an award winning documentary done through my believe. Maybe she has her own different way in secret. Maybe I am completely wrong? Why do you think this is an award winning short documentary?
